Dy says early loss to UP woke La Salle up

Kim Dy has propelled De La Salle into a share of the top spot in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament, and that newfound swagger from the defending champion came from an early disappointment.
The Lady Spikers have won three straight matches en route to a 5-1 record to tie with Ateneo, but before that brilliant showing was a disappointing ending when they lost to University of the Philippines via three-set sweep.
Dy said that loss, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19, served as their team’s wake up call.
“When we lost to UP that was the wake up call,” said Dy Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre. “We weren’t angry but we were pumped up so when we trained right after our UP game, we did what we should’ve done against UP.”
“We just released all our frustrations.”
During its three-game win streak, La Sallehas not dropped a single set and that was still the effect of their loss against the Lady Maroons.
Head coach Ramil De Jesus said the Lady Spikers have the urge to defeat any opponent that comes their way, and Dy said they want to show the league that they are capable of winning against anyone.
“We want to show that we can win despite losing most of our starters from the season before, we want to show that we can still do it” said Dy.
La Salle lost vital players Mika Reyes, Ara Galang and Cyd Demecillo due to graduation and Dy said they are capable of winning despite losing their previous stars.
“Most of the teams have improved so the competition is definitely a lot tougher, it’s the best of the best so that’s why we have to win more.”
