La Salle, UST eye wins to bolster Final 4 bids

Half-hearted efforts produce half-hearted results.

That’s what University of Santo Tomas coach Kungfu Reyes told his wards, whom he felt disappointed with after they gave up a set to lowly Adamson the last time around.

“If they don’t shape up we’re in trouble,” said Reyes. “Hopefully that (Adamson game) serves as a wake-up call for us because this is the critical phase of the tournament.”

The Tigresses hope to firm up their Final Four bid when they clash with the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

La Salle guns for win No. 9, hoping to tie rival Ateneo at least in the win column, as it takes on struggling University of the East in the other match.

The Lady Spikers could virtually seal a Final Four appearance with a victory, but focus will still be on the middle of the pack, where a win or a loss can spell a world of difference for a team’s bid to make the semifinals.

So far, there are four teams still in the running aside—UST, FEU, National U and University of the Philippines— from the top two.

“We need to make adjustments,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos. “It’s a challenge for us because we are not safe yet.”
