Adamson, Ateneo, UE capture UAAP titles

Adamson ruled softball for the seventh season, Ateneo returned as baseball king, while University of the East captured its first tennis title in the recent UAAP Season 79.

The Lady Falcons extended their reign after clipping University of Santo Tomas, 3-1, in Game 2 to sweep the softball finals at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Playing in her final year, Angelie Ursabia bagged the season Most Valuable Player, Most Homeruns and Best Slugger awards, while Adamson teammates Lyca Basa (Finals MVP), Flor Pabiania (Most RBIs-18) and Krisha Cantor (Most Stolen Bases-5) also took home honors.

Ateneo clinched its fourth baseball crown in five years as the Blue Eagles dealt the Tigers another heartbreak, 14-12, in extra innings in a showdown that lasted a grueling five hours and 25 minutes.

UE, meanwhile, scored a breakthrough championship in men’s lawn tennis behind the dominant performance of AJ Lim, the country’s No. 1 junior player, who copped the season MVP award.

The doubles pair of Paulo Baran and Jeric delos Santos also came through as the Red Warriors overpowered the Tigers, 3-1, at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
