Generika-Ayala salvages fourth place
Generika-Ayala scored a hard-fought sweep over Cocolife, 25-18, 26-24, 26-24, to finish in fourth place in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Invitational Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
After a relatively easy first set, the Lifesavers were pushed to their limits in the last two sets as they turned to Patty Orendain to eke out the victory.
“Actually, we’re still lacking. We need to be faster, we need to be wiser with every decision that we make,” said Generika head coach Francis Vicente.
“Our play still goes on and off, sometimes we go all out, sometimes we hold back and that’s the part that we need to sharpen [during the off-season].”
Orendain wound up with a game-high 15 points while Geneveve Casugod added 13 points, including three service aces.
“The skills are there, but they still need to be sharper. We need to push harder until we get the result we want with our game,” Vicente said.
Former La Salle stars Michele Gumabao and Wensh Tiu finished with eight points each for Cocolife.
