Clippers forward Griffin undergoes big toe surgery

LOS ANGLES—Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin underwent surgery Monday to repair the plantar plate of his right big toe, the team announced a day after being ousted from the NBA playoffs.
Robert Anderson, a foot and ankle specialist, performed the operation in Charlotte, North Carolina.
While the Clippers did not give a timetable for Griffin’s recovery, he is expected to return in time for pre-season training camp in October.
Griffin was injured during game three of the Clippers’ first-round Western Conference best-of-seven playoff series against the Utah Jazz and missed the remainder of the matchup, which the Jazz won in seven games.

Five-time NBA All-Star Griffin was sidelined last year in a first-round playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers with a quad injury.
Griffin averaged 21.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 61 regular-season games this past season. He has career averages of 21.5 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists over 471 NBA games.
