Floyd Mayweather Jr. ready to buy own NBA team
Retired boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the richest athletes in sports today, and it seems like he’s ready to put his money to good use.
The 40-year-old undefeated slugger—who’s a big basketball fan—shared his intent to purchase his very own NBA franchise.
“Just had a great meeting with @magicjohnson. It’s about time for me to buy an NBA team,” he captioned an Instagram photo of himself shaking hands with NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
“If you’re ready to sell your NBA team, please get in touch with me,” he added.
Forbes magazine noted that Mayweather earned around $700 million during a career that spanned almost two decades.
His mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao in 2015 reportedly grossed somewhere around $600 million, of which he took home over $200 million.
Currently, Forbes has estimated his net worth at around $340 million. Khristian Ibarrola /ra
