DLSU lady booters bag crown
La Salle closed out UAAP Season 79 with a bang on Sunday after its women’s football team captured the title at the expense of University of Santo Tomas, 3-1, at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The victory punctuated a nine-game sweep for the Lady Archers, who also snapped a seven-year title drought.
Powered by members of the national team that clinched a spot in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup last month, the Lady Archers proved too sharp for the Tigresses.
Kyra Dimaandal put La Salle on top in the 57th minute for her 11th goal of the season, before Hazel Lustan equalized for UST in the 73rd minute.
Sara Castañeda gave La Salle the lead in the 87th minute with a clinical finish off a fine ball from Irish Navaja. Goalkeeper Inna Palacios converted a late penalty for the final score.
