Perlas was on the verge of defeat before pulling off a stunning upset over Bali Pure in five sets, 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-12, in the Premier Volleyball League Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Sue Roces’ running spike capped off the Spikers’ comeback after they started the match flat and falling two sets down against the Water Defenders.

The Spikers improved to a 3-2 win-loss card and snapped the Water Defenders’ three-game win streak.

Perlas skipper Dzi Gervacio said their comeback against the Water Defenders was the result of proving to themselves that they can recover from a loss.

The Spikers were coming off a 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 loss to Philippine Air Force.

“We just wanted to recover from the previous game because we lost in three sets,” said Gervacio. “And we put in the hours, we prepare every game and it’s just a matter of bouncing back from the previous game.”

“Every game is important for us, win or lose.”

Amy Ahomiro had a team-high 20 points to lead Perlas while Gervacio added 16.

And though she wasn’t part of the starting six, Nicole Tiamzon provided an unlikely offensive punch off the bench as her inspired play resulted into 11 points.
