Marikina battles Meralco booters
JPV Marikina coach Dan Padernal considers his counterpart at Meralco Manila, Aris Caslib, as a valued mentor.
But their bond will take a backseat when Marikina clashes with Manila on Saturday in the Philippines Football League at Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.
“I have a lot of respect for coach Aris because he is my mentor,” said Padernal, who played under Caslib at San Beda and in the national team. “But I also have a job to do here at JPV. We want to win every game.”
JPV scored a 3-2 away win over Davao Aguilas in Tagum City to collect three points after losing its opening assignment against Global Cebu. The Sparks are gunning for a third straight victory, after dumping Stallion Laguna, 5-1, and nipping Ilocos United, 2-1.
