Gamboa nips Zark’s

Gamboa Coffee Mix playing-coach Leo Avenido saw his team badly needing a lift, after a lethargic start in its PBA D-League Foundation Cup debut on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

But Avenido didn’t need to look far to turn the Coffee Lovers’ fortunes around.

Taking matters into his own hands, the 38-year-old Avenido rolled back the years to finish with 15 points, including the game-winning free throws, as the Coffee Lovers squeaked past fellow newcomer Zark’s Burger, 85-84.

Later, Jeron Teng exploded for 33 points as another newcomer, Flying V, stunned Aspirants’ Cup champion Cignal, 86-84.
