WATCH: Kyrie Irving surprises dad ahead of Father’s Day with home renovation
After amassing millions in his budding NBA career, Kyrie Irving has never forgotten to give back to his parents.
The Cleveland Cavaliers’ starting point guard handed out the perfect Father’s Day gift to his dad, Drederick—a remodeled home.
With the help of interior design professionals from the hit series “My Houzz,” Irving and his sister Asia redecorated their childhood home in West County, New Jersey.
“He sacrificed a lot,” Irving described his father, who continues to live in their old house. “Ultimately gave up his dream to play basketball professionally [to support the family].”
After two months of renovation, Kyrie escorted his dad to his newly fixed place and was greeted by a more spacious layout and a modernized design.
The highlight of the house, meanwhile, remained to be the family’s trophy room, where the elder Irving kept all of his children’s trophies and other mementos.
Kyrie couldn’t help but get choked up after seeing how his father kept every trophy he has had.
Drederick, on the other hand, seemed quite delighted with his new home.
“I’m just so grateful for Asia and Kyrie,” he said. “Just a good feeling as a parent to know your kids have your back and they think about you. It’s just a nice gesture on their part.”
