Former NBA star Metta World Peace says he’s ‘going to Manila’

Former NBA star Metta World Peace is set to visit Manila for the first time.

In a tweet, World Peace said he will be in town on Aug. 11.

“I’m finally going to Manila, Philippines.. August 11th.. 1st time ever…” World Peace posted on Monday (Manila time).

The 37-year-old World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest before legally changing his name in 2011, last played with the Los Angeles Lakers.

World Peace, who was a 16th overall pick by the Chicago Bulls in the 1999 NBA Draft, played 19 seasons in the NBA and suited up for six different teams.

His best years was with the Indiana Pacers where he became an All-Star, All-NBA Third Team member and was awarded as Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 but he won his only championship in 2010 during his first go-around with the Lakers.

World Peace has a son named Jeron Artest, who was born to a Filipina mother.
