Cignal closes in on PVL men’s crown

Cignal leaned on team captain Ysay Marasigan to beat Megabuilders, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, and move on the cusp of a second straight title Wednesday in the men’s division of the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Marasigan, the former Ateneo standout, pumped in a game-high 21 points for the HD Spikers, who will shoot for the finals sweep in Game 2 on Saturday.

Edmar Bonono and Peter Torres were also solid for Cignal with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

FEATURED STORIES

Bryan Bagunas paced the Volley Bolt with 14 points, 12 off attacks.

Meanwhile, Philippine Air Force had four players in double-digits with Jeffrey Malabanan leading the way with 19 points.

Rodolfo Labrador and Howard Mojica added 14 points points apiece while Edwin Tolentino chipped in 12 in the battle for third place.
