NBA: Spurs legend David Robinson says it would be ‘crazy’ not to trade for Irving

The San Antonio Spurs remains high on the list of possible trade destinations for supposedly disgruntled Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving.

If only retired Spurs legend David Robinson were in charge, he would pull out all the stops to make it happen.

Although far removed form his playing days, the 52-year-old one-time NBA MVP still looks out for the best interest of the only franchise he has ever known.

In an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Robinson made it clear that the Spurs should be going all out in pursuing the talented 25-year-old out of Duke.

“We’d be crazy not to want a talented guy like that. He’s been a force for (the Cavaliers),” he spoke highly of Irving.

“I certainly think you add a talent like that to a system that can … enhance his impact in the game and make him more efficient,” he added.

“The Admiral” was even adamant that Irving heading to Texas would be a perfect fit not just on the hardwood but even outside of basketball.

“It’s just an enjoyable atmosphere where your teammates encourage one another, love one another,” he said. “I can only see positive things. … We can only dream about good stuff like that.”

Meanwhile, Irving would certainly be godsend to the perennial contenders Spurs, especially with their 35-year-old facilitator Tony Parker entering the twilight of his career and coming off a major surgery.

However, earlier reports have indicated that the Cavs are looking for “young assets” in possible trade scenarios, which the Spurs presumably lack at the moment.  Khristian Ibarrola /ra
