Adamson, FEU dispute finals slot

/ 05:07 AM October 09, 2017

It’s something Adamson coach Airess Padda was all too familiar with: That sinking feeling as the Lady Falcons were throwing away points on errors and were simply not doing their job.

For six games into the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference, the outspoken American mentor thought the last UAAP season was all behind them.

“Because they’ve been losing for so long, now that they’re winning, it’s almost like they have a chip on their shoulder and tonight we got knocked down,” said Padda on Saturday after Far Eastern University equalized their PVL semifinal series with a 21-25, 27-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11 win in Game 2.

On that night, the Lady Falcons committed 43 errors against the Lady Tamaraws’ 29.

“You’re not gonna be able to win a match like that,” added Padda, noting that FEU also out-attacked Adamson, 61-52.

Now the erstwhile unbeaten Adamson fight in a no-tomorrow duel against driven FEU on Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Winner in the 6:30 p.m. match will have the unenviable right to challenge the juggernaut that is National University for the championship.

FEU coach George Pascua must look for other options as team captain Bernadeth Pons is out, opting to banner the Lady Tams’ UAAP beach volleyball bid with Kyla Atienza.

In the men’s side, Ateneo and UST also duel for the other finals seat at 3:30 p.m. FEU is already waiting in the finals.
The Tigers stopped the undermanned Eagles, 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, on Saturday to force a rubber match.
