UP varsity bus hits road anew

/ 04:59 AM December 11, 2017

Completely overhauled and reconditioned, the UP-Alpha Sigma Varsity bus for university athletes was recently turned over to University of the Philippines president Danilo Concepcion by the UP Alpha Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association.

The bus, donated to the university in 2008 by the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity during the university’s centennial year, was rehabilitated after nearly a decade of heavy use, with UPASFAA drawing on the generosity of its members.

Major donors for the P2.5-million project included Aris Batuhan, Jackie Cruz, Mike Defensor, Eric Español, Jessie Gimenez, Pato Gregorio, Ray de Guzman, Raffy Morales, Senen de Santos, Doy Vea and Raymund Yu-Ekey. PLDT-Smart was also a major sponsor, its CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan being an honorary Alpha Sigman.

“This donation represents Alpha Sigma’s continuing commitment to the development and success of our varsity teams,” said lawyer and fraternity representative Rafy Morales, former managing partner of the SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan law firm. —JUNE NAVARRO
