Weightlifter Diaz gets TOYM award for 2017

Weightlifting celebrity Hidilyn Diaz reached another milestone to cap a year brimming with achievements.

Diaz, who clinched a silver medal in the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics, was picked as one of the awardees in the prestigious The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines for 2017.

“It’s (TOYM award) something that I would treasure for the rest of my life,” said Diaz. “Thank you TOYM for recognizing what I have done for our country.”

Competing in the women’s -53kg division, she earlier brought home a silver medal from the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Zamboanga City’s sports heroine also got a silver and a bronze medal in the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation last month in Anaheim, California.

“We can make changes in our own field just like me. I proved that I can make it,” said Diaz.
