Jarencio voices displeasure over UST’s hiring of ‘outsider’ as coach

Amid several reports of University of Santo Tomas’ supposed hiring of Aldin Ayo, one former mentor couldn’t hide his displeasure over the move.

Pido Jarencio, who guided the Growling Tigers to its last UAAP title in 2006, voiced his opinion in an apparent jab at the school for tabbing an “outsider” for the head coach post.

 “Ang dami naming magkakapatid na pwedeng pagkatiwalaan, ang ama namin kumuha pa ng taga labas (There are so many of us brothers who can be trusted but our father chose someone from outside),” tweeted Jarencio Friday.

“No delicadesa, sino ang may pakana (No propriety whatsoever, who’s at fault)?”

Jarencio, who is now the head coach of Globalport in the PBA, has expressed almost yearly his desire return to UST after leaving the school in 2013 when they lost to La Salle in the UAAP Finals.

Ayo, who is the former head coach of Letran before jumping ship to La Salle, said at the end of the basketball tournament of Season 80 that he has “lots of friends” who are priests in UST.

It’s worth noting that Ayo graduated with a Philosophy degree from Letran, UST’s sister school under the Dominican order.
