Le Tour de Filipinas postponed due Mayon eruption
Putting premium on safety, the ninth installment of the Le Tour de Filipinas has been postponed due to the looming eruption of Mayon Volcano.
The organizers of the event said the rescheduled date is yet to be determined.
As of posting, Albay has been reportedly declared under the state of calamity. Alert level 3 is still hoisted over the volcano with close to 25,000 people evacuated from 29 barangays within the 6-kilometer radius.
The cyclists path is centered around the area of the volcano and in nearby provinces of Catanduanes and Sorsogon.
The International Cycling Union and participants of the race have already been informed about the postponement.
Responding to appeals for help, the Philippine Daily Inquirer is extending its relief to the families affected by the recent volcanic activities of Mayon.
