NCAA volleyball: Sta. Rita’s career-high steers Lady Stags to 3rd win

Joyce Sta. Rita set a career-high to lead San Sebastian past Mapua, 25-20, 25-7, 29-31, 25-14, in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The team captain unleashed 28 points for the Lady Stags while also getting help from three of her teammates with Nikki Dalisay adding 17, Daurene Santos tallying 11 and Dangie Encarnacion chipping in 10 points.

San Sebastian climbed to 3-2 to bolster its Final Four bid. The Lady Stags are currently in fourth place thanks to a better quotient than College of St. Benilde, which also owns a 3-2 slate.

“We’re on track. We’re still there. We still have four games left and I hope we can still make it,” Gorayeb told reporters in Filipino.

But Gorayeb wasn’t really pleased with how his team’s overall performance, particularly in the third set where the Lady Stags committed too many errors.

San Sebastian blew three match points, two of which from service errors, that had Gorayeb shaking his head on the bench.

The Lady Stags regrouped and didn’t leave anything to chance in the fourth set.

Angeline Mangundayao scored 10 points while Katrina Racelis and Patria Peña had nine apiece for the Lady Cardinals, who dropped to 0-6.
