LONDON—The torch relay before the 2012 London Olympics will start in Land’s End and travel as far as the outer reaches of Scotland on an 8,000-mile (12,875-kilometer) journey, organisers said Wednesday.

The Olympic flame will arrive from Greece on May 18, 2012 and the relay will get under way on the westerly point of mainland Britain and continue for 70 days until the opening ceremony of the Games on July 27, 2012.

There will be no international relay after the chaos caused by human rights protesters demonstrating against China’s hosting of the 2008 Games, although the relay may incorporate a stop in Dublin according to reports.

There will be visits to six islands – to the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey and the Scottish islands of Shetland, Orkney and the Isle of Lewis.
