Tiu rules Quick 8 Southern Series
Multiple champion Jonathan Tiu delivered an encore of his Northern Series victory by ruling the Quick 8 class of the Southern Series’ opening leg in the 2018 National Drag Racing Championships at Batangas Racing Circuit recently.
Tiu was a cut above the rest in his Nissan GTR, besting Allan Ararao in the final face-off with a time of 10.296 seconds.
Ararao, in a Mitsubishi Evo, timed 10.87 seconds, with Alvin Abrigo clinching third in a Honda Civic with an 11.292 split in the class exclusive to drivers who posted the eight quickest time in qualifying.
Romualdo Vasquez topped the Pro races in another Evo, posting a time of 12.242, while Alvin Cordova clinched the Expert class title with a 13.10 split.
Herbert Gutierrez in a Honda ruled the Sportsman division in 15.718, Rafael Alvaran nailed the Hotstreet title in 16.648 in another Honda.
More than 200 drivers in various souped-up machines vied for the titles over the special 200-meter BRC drag race track with Tiu again coming out strong in a bid to sweep Quick 8’s dual titles.
