Altas seek 11th NCAA men’s plum vs Chiefs

Perpetual coach Sammy Acaylar managed to push the Altas to the cusp of their 11th NCAA men’s volleyball title.

But that’s what scared the veteran mentor the most.

“We tend to relax when we are ahead,” said Acaylar, many time national men’s team coach. “Now we have the momentum, but I have been in this situation many times before and I know anything can happen.”

The Altas hacked out a 26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16 victory in Game 2 last Monday to level the championship series.

That was after the Chiefs ruled the opener, 12-25, 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 15-9, Friday.

Perpetual is also seeking the crown in juniors division when it takes on Letran in Game 2 of their own series.

Setter Warren Catipay got Perpetual offense going as he made 40 excellent sets in Game 2 that opened the firing lines for rookie MVP Joebert Almodiel, Ridzuan Muhali and Ronniel Rosales.

“We just have to stick to our game plan and we’ll be okay,” said Acaylar.
