BIÑAN — To say Ginebra was hell-bent on getting win no. 1 on Friday may be an understatement.

And Kevin Ferrer made sure that happened as his 21 points on a 5-of-9 sniping from three delivered the 105-91 victory over Blackwater.

“We need to win today because if we lost, it will be very hard for us to rise,” said Ferrer as the Gin Kings improved to 1-2 for the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Ferrer took advantage of Greg Slaughter’s return as he exploited the space given to him to drill those long bombs and put the game out of reach early.

With the former UST Growling Tiger waxing hot, Ginebra easily ran away with the game, taking a 64-41 halftime edge which even ballooned to as high as 26 in the fourth quarter.

“When Greg gets the ball inside, the defense collapses on him and the job gets easier for us,” he said.

“We can set to our positions and we get open. It also helps that my teammates are very encouraging when it comes to us shooting more. And with that trust, it also helps us get into our rhythm.”

Don’t expect Ferrer to hoist more three-pointers in the next games, though, saying that he will do what head coach Tim Cone asks of him.

“That depends on what our opponents are giving us. And especially, that depends if coach Tim puts me in the game,” he said with a laugh.
