Gilas Pilipinas cadets ended an up-and-down campaign in the Filoil Preseason Cup on a winning note after beating Emilio Aguinaldo College, 82-69, on Tuesday night.

The victory, however, was the only reason for cadets coach Jong Uichico to feel happy about as he expressed displeasure with his players’ inability to play as a team.

“None, except for the win,” Uichico said when asked what he liked about the win.

“Other than that, we didn’t play hard enough. We took them for granted. We didn’t play defense we just won because we were better as individuals not better as a team.”

The young Filipinos wrapped up the tournament with a 4-5 record as they failed to even get to the quarterfinals.

Facing a winless team, the cadets weren’t really able to dominate the Generals, who suffered their eighth consecutive loss.

Matt Nieto led the cadets with 15 points while Ken Tuffin added 13 points and five rebounds. Ricci Rivero chipped in 10.

JP Maguliano had 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Generals.
