GlobalPort rises to 4-4, snaps San Miguel’s 3-game streak

GlobalPort toppled San Miguel, 98-94,  in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Batang Pier reached .500 territory with a 4-4 record and in the process, snapped the Beermen’s three-game winning streak.

Stanley Pringle came up with a crucial steal on Alex Cabagnot that led to a layup by Moala Tautuaa on the other end for the Batang Pier’s 97-94 lead with 19 seconds left.

Globalport and San Miguel went tit-for-tat in the final six minutes of the game with Cabagnot scoring on a 3-pointer to give the Beermen an 89-88 lead before Kelly Nabong made a layup to give Batang Pier the 90-89 bubble.

Reigning four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo tied the game at 92 with 1:32 left in the game but Nico Elorde countered right back with a three-pointer for GlobalPort’s 95-92 margin.

Malcolm White had a team-high 25 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Batang Pier while Pringle put up 22 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.

Renaldo Balkman had 33 points, 13 boards, six assists, four steals, and four blocks for the Beermen while Fajardo added 20 points and eight rebounds.
