Generika-Ayala turns back UA-UP to kick off PSL bid

Generika-Ayala pounded United Auctioneers-University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-9, 23-25, 25-16, to open the 2018 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga Invitational on a high note Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lifesavers finished off the Lady Fighting Maroons in the fourth frame using a 7-1 spurt, topped by Patty Orendain’s down-the-line kill.
“We adjusted a bit because of the all-to-play rule so we balanced the first two sets and the outcome was good,” said Generika-Ayala head coach Sherwin Meneses in Filipino.
UA-UP broke a 22-all deadlock in the third set using a quick 3-1 run capped by Nicole Magsarile’s crosscourt kill to prevent a sweep.
Angeli Araneta led all scorers with 26 markers while Orendain added 18 points.
