PH bet Meggie Ochoa bags bronze in Asian Games jiujitsu

Meggie Ochoa claimed the bronze medal in an all-Filipino match up, edging Jenna Napolis in the third-place match of the newaza women’s -49 kg jiujitsu competition in the 2018 Asian Games Friday at JCC-Assembly Hall in Jakarta.

Napolis was the early aggressor in the bout but Ochoa managed to overturn the action and score a counter in the final minute to finish the match at 2-0.

Ochoa’s triumph is the Philippines’ sixth bronze medal, giving the country a total of seven medals with one gold.

The two Filipino artists arrived in the bronze medal match in different fashions.

Ochoa went through the repechage after she lost to Vietnam’s Thi Thanh Minh Duong in the quarterfinals before taking care of Mongolia’s Bayarmaa Mumkhgerel to advance to the bronze medal bout.

Napolis, meanwhile, lost to Cambodia’s Jessa Khan in the semifinals that set up her third place match against Ochoa.
