UFL: Stallion duels Meralco
MANILA, Philippines — Surprise leader Stallion Giligans seeks to sustain its strong start against Loyola Meralco Saturday in a battle of United Football League leaders at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Kickoff is at 4 p.m. with the two squads, which figured in a memorable UFL Cup quarterfinal duel won by Loyola, looking for their third straight victories.
Stallion, flashing better passing, routed defending champion Air Force, 4-1, Tuesday night to gain top spot on goal difference.
The Sparks barely survived their last two matches, winning, 3-2, over Green Archers United, and then Army, 2-1, Sunday.
The loss to the Sparks in the Cup still stings for Stallion.
“We felt we could have won that game,” said Stallion manager Ernie Nierras, who had two players—Vince Braga and Jason Cordova—sent off during that game.
Strikers Ruben Doctora and Lee Joo-young have combined for seven goals for Stallion.
The Airmen try to break into the win column against Army in the first two matches aired live by AKTV on IBC 13.
