UAAP round up: Lady Archers nail volleyball Final 4 edge

By

MANILA, Philippines—De La Salle U faced little challenge in preserving its perfect records in tennis and women’s volleyball as Ateneo also sustained its surprise run in baseball in UAAP Season 74 action over the weekend.

The Lady Archers nailed the twice-to-beat semifinal advantage after disposing of University of Santo Tomas in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-13, in women’s volleyball at the FilOil-Flying V Arena.

Rookie Ara Galang led a balanced attack with 12 hits as the Lady Archers streaked to their 11th straight triumph.

The Green Archers also cruised to seven consecutive wins by downing University of the East, 4-1, in men’s tennis at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Also staying perfect in the women’s side, reigning MVP Reggie Santiago powered the Lady Archers to a 5-0 shut out of Ateneo.

In baseball, the Blue Eagles stayed undefeated in six games after dumping University of the Philippines, 10-0, in just five innings at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Kirk Long, who also suits up for Ateneo’s champion basketball squad, and Kevin Ramos belted two RBIs each for the Eagles.

Charles Catangui and Matt Laurel also had two runs each for the Eagles, the surprise league leaders who are bidding for a first tournament crown.

In men’s football, defending champion UST wrapped up its first-round campaign on top with nine points on a 2-3-0 win-draw-loss record following a scoreless draw with UP. UST also claimed the top spot in the distaff side with a 2-2-0 slate (eight points) as defending champion FEU slipped to a second-best 1-3-0 slate (six points).
