Tams, Tigers hurdle rivals

Fight mars FEU rout of Pirates

FAR EASTERN’s Anthony Hardgrove (right) tries to stop Lyceum’s Shane Ko in yesterday’s game at the FilOil Flying V Arena. AUGUST DELA CRUZ

Brandishing its awesome firepower, Far Eastern U overwhelmed Lyceum, 72-50, yesterday in a fight-marred game, even as University of Santo Tomas also pulled through in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Hanes Cup.

The Tigers proved steadier down the stretch to repulse the Perpetual Help Altas, 70-66, and barge into the victory column at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

RR Garcia and Arvie Bringas shot 11 points each as the Tamaraws  raised their card to 1-1.

The court almost transformed into war zone when FEU guard Terrence Romeo pushed Lyceum’s Faustine Pascual, triggering the scuffle that also involved FEU player Clarence Foronda with three minutes remaining.

Romeo was slapped with an unsportsmanlike foul, along with a disqualifying foul, leading to his ejection, while Foronda was also given a disqualifying foul.

Andrei Mendoza, a former Pirate, rushed out of his seat  behind the Lyceum bench and into the court, before punching Gryann Mendoza of FEU.

Romeo and Foronda have been slapped with one-game suspensions while  Mendoza has been barred from  entering the venue. With a report from Randolph Leongson
