Lady Stags tab quarters berth

By

THAI ACE Jeng Bualee got away with another huge game as San Sebastian slipped past University of St. La Salle, 25-18, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, to clinch a quarterfinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Bualee—who averaged 30 points in the first two games—fired all of her 31 points off attacks to power the Lady Stags to their third straight triumph.

Joy Benito also delivered with 23 markers, including seven attacks in the fourth frame that helped lift the Lady Stags past the pesky Lady Stingers.

“Although we know that we had an advantage over St. La Salle, we still could not underestimate them considering that they’re a champion team,” San Sebastian coach Clint Malazo said of the Bacolod-based Stingers.

Far Eastern University, meanwhile, picked up its first win in two outings versus the debuting Southwestern U, 25-9, 25-8, 25-15, in the first game.

FEU guest player Eve Sanorseang had 15 points in the lopsided match where the Lady Tamaraws got off with a 20-4 salvo in the first set.

“It’s not that the players from SWU had a sub par performance, our players just improved and became more mature,” said FEU coach Nestor Pamilar. “We played against them during the Unigames, maybe it’s just that we took the upper hand early on.” With a report from Rodolfo Serafin Jerome T. Lozada and Jan Edward B. Ballesteros, Contributors
