Lions snare 6th straight victory

By

Ferocious in the second half, San Beda rolled over Mapua, 77-61, yesterday to clinch a quarterfinal berth, even as National U also stayed unbeaten in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Cup.

Ateneo nailed its fifth win in six games, bucking a slow start to down University of the East, 79-73, behind Kiefer Ravena’s 16 points.

“This is our worst defensive game considering we allowed 73 points,” said Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga.

The Lions used a 19-0 third quarter run en route to their sixth straight victory at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

The Bulldogs earlier overpowered the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 93-52, to improve to 4-0.

NU broke out of the gates hard and proved unrelenting up until the final buzzer.

Denice Villamor finished with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including two treys, while Emmanuel Mbe chipped in 12 points.

“Our bench stepped up, and it’s a good experience for us,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano.

San Beda’s breakaway was highlighted by Anjo Caram’s alley-oop to Jake Pascual that gave San Beda a 54-32 spread. With reports from Randolph Leongson, Rodolfo Lozada and Jan Edward Ballesteros
