Bulldogs nail fifth straight win, maul Blazers

By

BOBBY Ray Parks and Emmanuel Mbe again starred for National University as the Bulldogs crushed St. Benilde, 71-52, yesterday to stretch their perfect run to five games in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup.

“We just kept it simple—find the open guys for easy scoring opportunities,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano after the Bulldogs stayed on top of Group B and virtually secured a quarterfinal berth.

Mapua needed a big fourth-quarter run to slip past the University of the Philippines, 61-56, in the second game at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Cardinals, who opened the final quarter with a 14-4 outburst, picked up their first victory in three outings.

In the third game, Norbert Torres pumped in 16 points—including key baskets in the final quarter—and grabbed 12 rebounds to lift La Salle past University of Santo Tomas, 78-70. With reports from Rodolfo Lozada, Jan Ballesteros and Randolph Leongson
