2012 World Slashers Cup finals begin

THE TWO-DAY finals of the 2012 World Slashers Cup-2 gets going today with the 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 pointers in Group A locking horns at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Participants in this batch will gun for as much as 7.0 points while hoping that no one in tomorrow’s grand finals, where the 3.5 and 4.0 pointers will compete, scores more than seven wins.

Last Thursday’s Group B semifinals produced a sparkling show by Mayor Jose Panganiban. After scoring six wins out of six matches in the eliminations, Panganiban posted four wins and two draws out of six fights in the Group B semifinals.

Hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions and sponsored by Thunderbird Bexan XP, this edition of the World Slashers Cup’s 50th anniversary derby is expected to be remembered for the strong showing by the underrated cockers.

Trying to shoot for 7.0 points today, among others, are 3-pointers Rey Briones, whose hopes are still alive for a third consecutive title; Nestor Vendivil of Nueva Ecija, Boy Marzo, Dicky Lim, lawyer Jun Mendoza, engineer Remy Medrano, James Uy, Rep. Amado Bagatsing, Bebeng Zulueta and Mayor Cito Alberto.

Other Group B standouts are Tunu Legaspi, Cockfights publisher Wilvin Sy, Nelson Uy and Judge Paneda, Bong Valle-Danny Aramada-Jomar Palomaria, Rhemy Medrano, Rey Briones and Teng Ranolaa with Mayor Jesry Palmares.
