Malaysians taking Azkals seriously

By

MALAYSIA isn’t taking any chances against the Philippines, fielding a formidable roster powered by the core of the Suzuki Cup champion team two years ago for the friendly against the Azkals on Friday at the Shah Alam Stadium in Selangor.

Skipper Safiq Rahim, fleet-footed S. Kunanlan and star striker Safee Sali were among those who were named to the 26-man lineup by coach K Rajagobal that will be pitted against the Azkals, who will also parade one of their strongest squads in years.

Azkals manager Dan Palami sees a tougher challenge for the Azkals than their 1-1 draw with Malaysia three months ago at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, noting that the Tigers also perform well when they play at home.

“We have a daunting task of trying to finally deal Malaysia with the first home loss since 2009,” said Palami.

The present Malaysia National team is in the midst of accomodating those players who are now over aged, from the under-23 squad recent Sea Games into the national squad. So the team is going through adjustments. We are also still trying to find and form the best team by selecting and promoting players from clubs and  junior ranks into the team and to have them tested out  The newly selected under 23 team is already made up of almost entire new faces and they are not the same calibre players like the past two previous sea games under-23 which won the sea games gold  twice consecutively.

I think it is Philippines has the edge over Malaysia as most of the players in the Philippines team are made up of professional players from european based  clubs. We may have home ground advantage but on papers it is Philippines who are favourites and the stronger team of the two  While we may not have the luxury like Philippines has,( recruiting mixed foreign filipino professional players into the team) .but this should not be an excuse statement  even should we lose . Like i said,  it is good for us to play against your team which is more nd a a much stronger and most improved team, It will be an honor to play against such a respected  strong team like Philippines. I rather we will lose fighting  to a strong teamlike Philippines  than to win at ease without improving ourselves to a weaker team.. All the best to both teams and keep playing the beautiful games. God bless.
