Amit, Ranola get boot in Women’s World 9-BallBy Celest R. Flores
MANILA, Philippines – All of the Filipino bets have gotten the boot in the final 32 of the 2012 Women’s World 9-Ball Championship Wednesday at Shenyang, China.
With just two pool stars representing the country among 64 participants from all over the world, the Philippines’ run in the annual event was only up until the first part of the knockout stage.
Rubilen Amit, a former World 10-Ball titlist, suffered two straight defeats – the last in the hands of Chichiro Kawahara of Japan, 2-9, which ended her run.
Iris Ranola, a two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, survived the losers’ bracket in the group stages but came up short against veteran Allison Fisher of Great Britain, 6-9.
Both players entered the tournament without any financial support from Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee, according to reports.
