Mark Julius Rodelas and Kaizen dela Serna won’t only be contending for gold in the coming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia, but the obstacle course racing Filipino aces will be also shooting to break the respective Guinness World Records come May.

Rodelas and Dela Serna hold the world records in the male and female 100-meter obstacle course race, two of the four events in the Games set May 5 to 17 in Phnom Penh.

“We will apply for recognition with Guinness if our athletes break the record,’’ said Philippine Obstacle Sports Federation president lawyer Al Agra during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association forum.

Team Philippines pocketed all six gold medals, with the entire 16-athlete delegation bagging a medal each during the 2019 SEA Games in Manila, before the sport was shelved last year in the Vietnam edition.

These Filipino ninjas are angling to pull off another sweep in the medal tally in Cambodia.

“In terms of our objective, we’re aiming for a perfect four. We’ll also be working very hard for all 12 Filipino athletes to bring home medals,’’ said Agra.

Apart from the male and female 100-m races, gold medals will likewise be staked in the men’s and women’s team events.

Rodelas set the new world record of 27.12 seconds held at the Arcovia City course in Pasig City last year while Dela Serna clocked 39.42. INQ
