Perasol to replace Black?

PBA mentor Bo Perasol may just move to the collegiate coaching circle after Ateneo named him as “the first choice” to replace Norman Black as head coach of the Blue Eagles.

Ricky Palou, Ateneo’s representative to the UAAP, told the Inquirer yesterday that Perasol topped the shortlist of candidates eyed to replace Black, who will step down after this year’s UAAP season to mentor Talk ‘N Text in the PBA.

“He’s the first choice of the search committee,” Palou said of Perasol. “But whoever it is, we want him on board as early as possible. We want him to serve as an assistant or a consultant this season.”

Perasol, who currently calls the shots for Powerade, suited up for the University of the Philippines in the UAAP in the ’90s.  Jasmine W. Payo

Wala na ba talagang iba?? Kung si Perasol ang papalit kay coach Norman, papaano na yung mga assistant coach na nasa team ngayon na matagal na ring nagse-serve? Bakit di nalang isa sa kanila (i.e. Jamike Jarin or Sandy Arrespacochaga)?

Jamike is the coach of the Eaglets, maybe the sports directors think he’s not yet ready to move up to college basketball. Sandy coached the Eagles in 2004, so he already had his chance.

Jamike is now an assistant coach at Talk N Text, and I believe because he is worthy.  Knowing Black’s ways, he could be a great coach of the Blue Eagles. Sandy was very good as a coach in 2004 following Joel Banal’s departure. Unfortunately, it was because Larry Fonacier got injured with an ACL in the 2nd round of eliminations that made it difficult for Ateneo to compensate. I don’t think it was entirely Sandy’s fault.  Anyway, if it’s going to be Perasol, I just hope he’d be a good fit. It would be at least a 2 year adjustment and for sure no championships during those times.
