National developmental pool standouts Sixto Lalanto and Mary Claudine Ybanez ruled their respective divisions in the Century Tuna National Age-Group Triathlon race in Cagayan de Oro City recently.
Lalanto completed the 750-meter swim, 20-km bike, and 5-km run event in an hour, three minutes and 48 seconds.
Ybanez needed a strong performance in the final kilometer of the run to overcome a four-minute deficit and eventually pip Annabelle Dominique Torres for the women’s title.
The participation of former basketball coach Dodix Bernardos, a stroke victim in 2010, was among the highlights of the race.
The other winners of the event were Mary Pauline Fornea (Female 17-19), Kathlene Co (Female 20-29), Shai Bacus (Female 30-over), Banjo Norte (17-19), Peter Villocino (20-24), Jean Patrick Serrano (25-29), Jemarvin Cabilan (30-34), Christopher Eyao (35-39), Ferdinand Sogoc (40-44), Tenggoy Colmenares (45-49), Allen Nitollama (50-54), Killu Kunimoto (60-over).
