Zhakypov defeats Barriga

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino bet Mark Barriga yielded to Birzhan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan in heartbreaking fashion, 16-17, Saturday in the 2012 London Olympics.

Barriga, who emphatically beat Manuel Cappai of Italy in his opening match, took a 10-8 edge after Round 2.

The five-foot Barriga though, was deducted by a point that proved to be too crucial as Zhakypov chalked up his second straight one-point win after barely escaping Frenchman Jeremy Beccu.

That was one of the worst “bit of coaching” that I have seen.

Our boy, Barriga, was leading by two(2) big points going into the last (3rd) round
Changing tactic into one of purely defense was just wrong…, wrong…, wrong.
And our boy did a very poor job at going defense…, and clinching…, and falling on his back.
NEVER EVER change a winning game/strategy.
Our boy was doing great by being on the offense and overall, fighting it HIS WAY.
    Sayang nga SAYANG.

A case of “…snatching defeat from the jaws of victory”
