MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines’ last chance for a medal in the London 2012 Olympics didn’t exactly start off well.

Fil-American Daniel Caluag clocked in second to the last among 32 bikers in the seeding run of the men’s BMX competition Wednesday in London.

But Caluag, though, has an ample chance to redeem himself and still get that elusive medal.

Caluag was 3.121 ticks behind the leader Netherlands’ Raymond Van Der Biezen, who had a time of 37.779, and ahead of Latvia’s Edzuz Treimanis, who did not finish the race.

The seeding run was just to determine which heat Caluag will be placed in for the quarterfinals and doesn’t eliminate him from the competition.

Caluag will be in Gate 8 in Heat 3 on Thursday, alongside some of the riders who made it to the top 10 in the seeding run.

People dont do sports in the Philippines , to busy watching brain dead shows on tv.

  • bananabrain

we should just train inmates since they have nothing to do and most are able bodies ..eg .mga snatcher magaling sa track and field, assassins can be shooters, mga estafador magaling sa hide and seek (if only it were an olympic sport) etc….only downside ,  ewan lang natin kung papasa sa doping test at kung bumalik pa ng bansa pagkatapos

Di man maka qualify sa world olympics.

d bale pare pnalo nman siya silver pag baliktan ang counting…ahaha second to the last…overhyped kc wag nman sana paasahin ang mga pinoy…mas ok pa si barriga eh…khit papaano d ngkumpiyansa…basketball pare team games… khit papano my npatunayan na ng pinas sa basketball khit kulang sa height..bilog ang bola pare hindi katulad ka karera …lalo na pag mababa ang rangking mo tapos sasabhin mo na malakas siya at  ngplace na siya sa UCI WC lol place nya second to the last ba?…

This must be Danny’s strategy. He knows that the winning time is around 37 sec. He has competed with these top cyclists and probably didn’t want to be seeded together with the stronger cyclists. He still has a chance though. Go Philippines!

How ironic would it be we get the only medal from of all sports BMX.  A sport that people easily dismiss as a hobby or laro ng mga tambay or laro ng mga elitsta

    • generalproblem

    • Diepor

BMX is a very big sport. All sports can be looked at as a hobby , jogging, shooting, rowing, kajakking, basketball, fotball, cycling, horse riding and so on.

  • Hey_Dudes

Officials and athletes are always first when it comes to hubris and claims medal drought will be over.  However, when it come to actions, results is always predictable – our athletes always finishes dead last. I think unless government and athletes are truly ready competing worldwide, save the money and train hard and well.  I read in China, government takes those with potentials at early age and develop them into excellent athletes.  This explains why they are superb in this London Olympics as well as the scheduled winter Olympics.

it needs budget, maybe get a congressman to dedicate all his pork barrel towards hauling one gold medal

    • jtpa

Be careful what you wish for.  In China, kids are taken away from their families to be trained.  One story I read that the death of her grandmother and the condition of her mom wast kept to her until she won the medal.  Once the Chinese government took you to become an athlete, they already own you.  I prefer the model done by the West where athletes are supported very well by private companies (they pour in real good money) on top of the government support.

    • kismaytami

    • Diepor

In what winter sports are China superb?

      • Hey_Dudes

Never heard of the Chinese champions in skate dancing pairs? Russia used to dominate this contest but China has taken over in case you want to know.

      • Diepor

I wouldnt call it superb to maybe win one or to medals in the winter olympic.I am not gay so I dont follow any dancing competition.

unfortunately miracles doesn’t exist in Olympics.

        It does..

      • kismaytami

        Yes, but miracles as cheating…
