Alcantara, Reyes open Philta bids with easy victories

WILD cards Francis Casey Alcantara and Marc Reyes cruised to the second round with easy victories over separate opponents Friday night in the Olivarez-Philta Tennis Championships presented by Palawan Pawnshop Express Pera Padala at  Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat.

The Fresno State stalwart Alcantara, the 2009 Australian Open juniors doubles champion, routed Arjohn dela Cruz, 6-0, 6-3, while  Fil-Italian Reyes, the 2009 PCA Open runner-up, drubbed Ernesto Pantua.

Top seed Jeson Patrombon and No. 2 Johnny Arcilla also started their bids late yesterday.

No. 3 pick and PH Davis Cupper Elbert Anasta ripped Edwin Olivarez, 6-1, 6-0, while fellow Cupper and No. 5 Rolando Ruel also came through with a 6-1, 6-0 win over young upstart Deo Talotayod.

Alberto Villamor also advanced at the expense of Arcie Mano, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Villamor will next face Kristian Tesorio who beat Romeo Dimakiling, 6-2, 6-3. Other  survivors include Alberto Lim Jr., and Antonio Quiza, Fritz Verdad, Kim Saraza, Radharani, Elson Solon, Mario Sabas, Leander Lazaro, Roel Capangpangan, Joseph Victorino, Peter Egos, Ronard Joven and Alexander Lazar.
