Philippines clobbered by Lebanon in Jones Cup

MANILA, Philippines—There were no comebacks this time for the Philippines as it took a 72-91 beating from Lebanon Thursday in the 2012 William Jones Cup.

After a stunning conquest of Japan Wednesday, 88-84, Smart Gilas didn’t seem to have gas left in the tank and started to trail by double digits midway the second half.

It was the Philippines first loss of the tournament after four straight victories, losing its first place tie with Iran.

    The ultimate goal of this team is chemistry and cohesion. If they are in top form as a team, they can beat anybody. Coach Chot and Uichico are doing a great job. The plays are superb!

    Competition in the international arena is a much more challenging ballgame. And I’m not referring to just basketball and regional sports. Needless to say, as with anything worth doing, preparation is key, which, like it or not, requires a deep pocket, among others. 2016 Brazil Olympics beckons.
