St. Clare keeps unbeaten slate
ST. Clare kept its immaculate slate while Centro Escolar and STI also posted easy wins over the weekend in the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu) men’s basketball tournament at C.P. Tinga gym in Taguig.
St. Clare roared to an 81-38 lead after three quarters then settled for a 100-69 romp over Fatima with Jeff Viernes and Eugene Torres spearheading the attack.
It was the ninth straight win for St. Clare, which moved within three wins of sweeping the elimination round.
Centro Escolar, one of two teams which posed a serious threat to St. Clare this season, scored a similar rout over New Era, 84-48, while STI stayed close behind the leaders with a 92-71 thrashing of rival AMA Computer in the other senior game.
The Scorpions, enjoying renewed strength with champion coach Egay Macaraya, registered their eighth win in nine games while the Olympians, champions in 2007, hiked their record to 7-2.
In juniors’ action, the CEU Baby Scorpions blasted Fatima, 80-52, to remain unbeaten after seven matches.
