Philippine Azklas fall to Laos, 1-2

By

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines failed to follow up its impressive win over Singapore as it yielded to lower-ranked Laos, 1-2, in a friendly Monday night to wrap up its three-game Southeast Asian stretch at the National Stadium in Vientiane.

The Azkals, who blanked Singapore, 2-0, last Friday, gave up two penalties which Laos capitalized on with as many goals.

Rob Gier salvaged a goal late off a throw in by Jason Sabio in the 92nd minute.

Gier though, committed a foul inside the box which resulted to Laos’ first goal in the 52nd minute before another foul by Neil Etheridge gave Laos a 2-0 cushion.

Next up for the Azkals is the Philippine Football Peace Cup on September 25-29 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

The Philippine Azkals drew Cambodia, 0-0, in their first friendly.

This is just my personal view and need not to correct and need not to be agreed
Friendly matches are often used to build up and to sustain the team momentum ( prior to the competition), to experiment team formation experiment players versatile in certain positions than their usual position  for back up purpose, should ever the need arises. It is also a good time to try out unused players, upcoming rising players and giving those on the bench some exposure as well.
Brazil team struggled and almost didnt made it for the World Cup Finals ( held in korea and japan), while their bitter rival Argentina was unbeaten in all their qualifying World Cup Matches and topped the group, But Argentina players lost of form cost them dearly as they were knocked out in early round  while  Brazil peak form at the right time and went on to win the World Cup. Malaysia lost their opening match in their SEA Games group Match against Vietnam 1-3 or 1-4, four years ago, but went on to win the gold medal beating Vietnam 1-0. Prior to the recent SEA Games, the Malaysia soccer team lost to Cambodia in their friendly build up match but went on to win the SEA Game soccer beating Indonesia through penalty kicks after deadlock 1-1. Im just showing you guys some statistics here, You just dont write off your team becuase of just this lost to Laos.
The only concerns i have is that  the team maybe  beginning to feel lethargic. cos they had been playing many Intl matches and travelling long distances to play these intl matches including friendlies. There is a danger when you push the team to play one too many matches as it takes at least 48 hours for players to recover after each match excluding recovering from  knocks and injuries. To get cohesion in the team does not mean they had to play lots of intl matches but it also means conditioning and sustaining the players form as well and that the players has the bonding togather as a team. By playing daily togather in training besides exposing the team to intl matches , one may eventually form cohesion in the team, There must be a balance as not to over play or over ascert the players by pushing them to play too many intl matches and same time you do need intl matches to get the team expose to gain experience. There is always high risk when you push the team to play too many matches, as when the players get tired, they will not be fit and prone to sustain injuries as well. Even then we must understand besides intl matches they are also committed to their respective clubs in the league and they are playing week in and week out in domestic league. Add with this, it will defintely take toll on players when they are pushed to play one too many matches all in a very tight schdule without enough good rest to recover.
A team has to be well prepared for unexpected and that is exactly what the management and coach are doing. Here are some examples  as folllow  ,…. Has anyone of you guys experience or witness where a team lost almost entire of their squad through injuries and suspension in a competition till there were only 3 fit players and the rests on the field were injured players? the coach has to make some adjustments and shift players to fill up void position just to have 11 players in the match. Are your players able to fill the vacant position which is not their usual favourable position?  Lets say for example, should a key player in the team decided to retire  early from playing intl matches, Are you prepare for it?  (Paul Scholes did when he was still in his pinnacle of his soccer and has at least three to four good years to play for England but he decides to retire from intl scene). and very common are  players lost of form and getting injured during the match., its not an easy role to manage and to coach a national team.
