The Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippine Davis Cup team leaves for New Zealand today facing a tough, world-ranked opponent in their Group 1 tie minus its No. 2 player in the last two years.

Treat Huey, a doubles specialist and mainstay of the PH squad in its last seven ties, has decided to chase higher ATP rankings in the lucrative $500,000 Campbell’s Hall of Fame championships in Rhode Island.

He wasn’t listed in the PH roster nominated for the Asia/Oceania Group 1 tie.

Team manager Jean Henri Lhuillier said regulars Cecil Mamiit and Johnny Arcilla will be joined by Ruben Gonzales and first-timer Jeson Patrombon in the July 8-10 duel which New Zealand will host in Hawera.

“We have strong and talented players with the addition of Jeson who has been making waves in the juniors,” said Lhuillier who will accompany the team. “Cecil will be back also as team captain.”
