PBA: Jimmy Alapag reaches milestone as he makes 1,002nd tripleBy Celest R. Flores
MANILA, Philippines—Jimmy Alapag now belongs to an elite cast of marksmen in the PBA.
Alapag, the Texters’ star guard, became only the fourth player in the storied PBA history to knock down 1,000 three-point shots after his 16-point performance Wednesday night.
After heating up the first half with two treys, Alapag converted two more to not only stir Talk N’ Text to an 96-89 win over Air 21 but to also close in on legends in “most 3-pointers made” list.
“Honored to be mentioned with legends Al Solis, Allan Caidic and Ronnie Magsanoc,” said Alapag on his Twitter account (@Jalapag3). “I’m much happier about our win tonight, though.”
Alapag surpassed Al Solis, who made exactly 1,000 three-point conversions in his entire career, as he gave the Texters a 68-59 lead midway in the third quarter.
But still with gas left in his tank at 35, Alapag is expected to inch closer to PBA greats Allan Caidic and Ronnie Magsanoc on the all-time list.
Caidic, one of the purest shooters the league has ever come acrosss, owns the record with 1,242 treys while Magsanoc has 1,171 across his name.
