MANILA, Philippines — Fruitas made a sterling debut in the 2012 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup, tripping Cafe France 88-82 Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Veteran guard Jai Reyes, though just on a one-off deal with the Shakers, starred with 21 points, five rebounds and seven assists to deliver the victory.
Reyes also provided a steady presence down the stretch, knocking down six free throws in the final minute to steer Fruitas out of harm’s way.
Carlo Lastimosa stepped up offensively with 16 points, which went along with 10 rebounds and two assists for the Bakers, who missed UP standout Mike Silungan due to lack of requirements.
The Bakers, who made a furious rally in the end game that came too late, drew a monster performance from bigman Mike Parala
Parala scored 22 points and pounded the glass to collect 14 rebounds while Jens Knuttel provided backup at quarterback with 18 points, four rebounds and five assists.
Cafe France kept in step with Fruitas all game long but lost control midway the fourth period.
