UST beats UP, stops skid in women’s volleyball in UAAP

MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas outclassed University of the Philippines, 25-18, 25-11, 25-14, Saturday in the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Maika Ortiz scored 14 points, five of which on blocks, to help the Golden Tigresses end their two-game tailspin.
The Lady Maroons, who succumbed to their third straight setback after stopping their 16-game skid, showed fight in the opening set but just couldn’t sustained their form.
UST zoomed to a 10-0 lead in the third set. UP trimmed the deficit to four but UST went on another run to seal the win.
Maru Banaticla, the Tigresses’ missing link in the last two games, shook off her slump with 13 markers.
UST evened its win-loss record to 2-2.
